Eduardo Garcia

by Alondra from Leal Elementary

Eduardo as a baby and now.
Eduardo as a baby and now.

Eduardo Garcia is the greatest! He doesn’t need superpowers to be my hero.

“Always think about others before myself,” he says all the time. Eduardo Garcia was born on October 16, in Rio Grande City. Lalo, as everyone calls him, is the son of Elia Garcia and Mario Garcia. He has a sister and stepbrother that are older than him. They used to live in Roma, TX when he was growing up.

He graduated from Roma High School. After that, he went to McAllen, TX STC College in the search of a career. His goal was to graduate from criminal justice. After a few years, he met Jeanette, my aunt, and my baby cousin, which is now 21/2. A year after they met, they got married. One week later he left to Iraq.

Eduardo is a strong and brave soldier. I still remember the sad day when we went to the airport to say good-bye. He left to Iraq. While in Iraq, his wife gave birth to his daughter, Elleny on October 16, 2006. The General allowed him to come for three days to meet his daughter, yet he was called back before the time was over. Three months late, he came back to his father’s funeral. Once again, he left and was not able to be present in his dad’s funeral. When he arrived in Iraq, his troop was attacked as they traveled in a tank; luckily, the bomb hit the tank who was in front of his. When my uncle came back home, he received a combat badge.

I consider Eduardo my hero because he is a brave man who is fighting for our country and no matter how difficult his life is – he never quits.
