DONATE

Edward

by Samantha from Springfield

I have many people in my life that I admire and could call a hero. But out of all those people my real hero is my D-A-D. Yeah that’s right my dad is my hero. I love my dad so much and he does so much for me. Those are only two of the many reasons why my dad is my hero; there are so many more.

My dad's name is Ed Gutowski and he grew up in Havertown Pennsylvania. When he was growing up he was a huge sports fan and loved to play in his small neighborhood. He has a sister named Jonnie (which is my aunt), his mom's name is Jonnie and his dad's name is Ed. (these are my grandparents.) When he lived in Havertown he liked to hang out with his friends and play baseball. When he got older he played for a men’s softball league. He also played football, wrestled, and swam. As he got older he stated to lifeguard at Hilltop Swim Club. That was when he and my mom became really good friends. He worked at Hilltop for many years and swam for their swim team too. When he was about 26 he married a women named Wendy and had my half brother Steve. Sadly he and Wendy got a divorce about 3 years later. That’s when my dad met up with my mom again and they got married. Now he is 47 and still married to my mom. He has four kids. (Me, Steve, Jake and Luke) and is a carpenter.

My dad is my hero because he is a very loving man. He cares deeply for his family and friends. The main thing that makes my dad my hero is the fact that he is always there for me no matter what. He is there for all my sports. I mean he even coaches one of my 3 softball teams and is an assistance coach for the freshmen softball team that I play for. My dad is a great guy and I admire him for everything he does. He sets great examples for me all the time and makes me grateful for the little things in life that most people take for granted. To most people he looks like he could rip your head off if you said the wrong thing to him. But to be completely honest he is the furthest thing from that. He is one of the most loving and giving man you could ever meet. In my opinion he has everything that every dad should have!

Another reason why my dad is my hero is because he never gives up. When my dad gets starts on something he never stops. For example, when he was redoing my house he would work from 7am to 8pm at night. And if he did not finish what he wanted to do in that time he would keep going till he finished it. Now of course it was not just him working alone, he had men that he hired to help him. But even then he would not stop. When it’s someone’s birthday in my family, he will search for the best present ever for you. Even if it's last minute, he will find the perfect gift. He is a great dad and always knows what to do. I love that about him.

The last big reason that shows why my dad is my hero is the fact that he is funny. When my dad is funny and happy he can make any situation a good one. Humor in anyone can change anything, since he is funny it makes me laugh and have a good time. Whenever I am in a bad mood I can always count on him to put me in a good mood. The only time it does not work is when we both have bad days. Ever since I started softball this year (2008) my dad and I have become very tight. That is very important to me because we can relate to each other better now and make a bad time a good time. We can make each other laugh all the time.

So my dad is my hero and will always be no matter what goes on in our lives. He has everything a dad should have and more. I love him so much! Now just in case you forgot why he is my hero, here it is again. He is my hero because he is loving, he never gives up and last but not least he is funny. Now don’t we all have a hero like that?!
