Eminem

by Melody from San Diego

We all know him as “the king of hip-hop”, the “real slim shady”. But do we really know the real Mr. Marshal Mathers? His lyrics, to be said are influential, his voice…powerful, and the meaning…merciful. I can say that Eminem is my hero. Not for the swearing and violence he portrays at points, but because of the meaning behind it. The background…

Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Marshal, preferably known as Eminem, grew up in a poverty stricken neighborhood. With his alcoholic mother and no father figure, Eminem had a VERY difficult childhood. He had no support from anyone. And he brought himself up on his own. He knew who he wanted to be, who he needed to be, and who he would surround himself with.

Every hero possesses different qualities. Most common qualities are strength and courage. People look at a hero and think of an action movie star, or a fireman. But sometimes there’s more to a hero then the stereotypical hero. Eminem possesses courage, leadership, perseverance, strength, wisdom and ability…Therefore he is a hero. With his tough attitude to carry on, he was able to inspire some of us, touch our hearts by putting the “real” pain in his lyrics.

“I took my bruises, took my lumps, Fell down and I got right back up…But I need that spark to get psyched back up, And in order for me to pick the mic back up”. This is a couple lines from Eminem’s song Beautiful. It explains how he’s gone through a lot but he’s still made it through everything to come out strong and be the great rapper and person he is today. He was always put down... by teachers, record labels, friends... they all said he would never make it. Here’s what he had to say... “I want to solidify as an artist and show that as I grow as a person and make mistakes and learn from them, I'm going to grow artistically”. He had his own mind with everything, and he wasn’t going to let anyone get in the way of his passion and love of making music.

Eminem inspires me because of his will and his courage. He never ever gave up when everyone said he wouldn’t make it. Yes, His lyrics can be provocative and sometimes just crazy, but there’s a meaning behind it. He writes what he feels, what other people would want to hear. Eminem is my hero because he is a great leader, a wonderful father, rapper and idol.
