“My father? I never knew him. Never even seen a picture of him.” (Marshall) Marshall Bruce Mathers III was born in Kansas City, Missouri on the 17 of October in 1974. Marshall never knew his father and his mother had him when she was 15 and she was also an alcoholic. He spent most of his life in suburban Detroit getting bullied and switching schools a lot. Through all the poverty and struggle Marshall went through came one of the most popular, controversial, lyrically gifted rappers in the world. Eminem is now a rap phenomenon, a great father and probably the most determined person in the world.

Eminem and Halie Jade

Eminem is a great father because of how much he will do and cares for his daughters. These lyrics explain that “And if you ask me to, daddy's gonna buy you a mocking bird I'm give you the world, I’m buy a diamond ring for you, I'm sing for you, I'll do anything for you to see you smile.” (Mockingbird by Eminem) Eminem made this song for his daughter which proves he is a good father considering he never had one. Even though he didn’t have custody of his daughter he still cared for a lot. “In school, when they have plays, field trips, all that stuff, I don't miss them, even if I’ve got to deal with the craziness.” (Eminem) This proves he is a great father because he takes time off of his career all the time to just be with his daughter and he tours less just because of Haley. Haley is now about 14 and living a normal life because her dad cares so much about her. If he didn’t care so much he would have focused solely on his career and she would have grown up almost a single child.

Determination: When you have the determination to fight something, no matter how weak you are, you will win. “'Cause sometimes you feel tired, feel weak, and when you feel weak, you feel like you want to just give up. But you got to search within you, you got to find that inner strength and just pull that shit out of you and get that motivation to not give up and not be a quitter, no matter how bad you want to just fall flat on your face and collapse.” ('Till I Collapse – Eminem) This shows he has determination because he tells everybody that they need to have it and to never give up. “I’ve been chewed up and spit out and booed off stage but I kept rhyming and kept writing” (Eminem) While he grew up he didn’t have any help rapping or making a living, he just kept going after rap because it was what he does best. This shows he is determined to be the best rapper because he doesn’t let people stop him from getting his goal.

So Eminem’s determination and ability to be an amazing father while being one of the best rappers there will ever be proves he is a hero. While growing up in a house with alcohol and no father in Detroit isn’t the most likely place for a hero to emerge from but when he set his mind to being a rapper nothing stopped him. He lived his life like he was destined to. We should all follow in his footsteps and live our lives like we should and not let anybody stop us.
