The Doctor makes a house call |
My hero is Julius Evring. You may know him as Dr. J. He was determined, athletic, and a good role model. These are the reasons that I chose Dr. J as my hero.
The first reason I chose him as my hero is that he was very determined. He never gave up on his dreams of becoming a professional basketball player. His coaches told him that he would be a better ball player if he could shoot long-range jump-shots, so he practiced them every day after school until he was good at them.
Dr. J was also athletic. When he was 12 years old his Salvation Army Pee Wee team made it to the New York Invitational. He also played on the freshman basketball team in the eighth grade. The high school coaches wanted him on the varsity when he was a freshman, but the coach of the freshman team said he wasn’t ready for high school ball yet. But as a 10th grader he made it on the team. He also got drafted to the pros when he was only a junior in college.
The final reason I chose Dr. J as my hero is that he was a good role model for a lot of kids. He never drank alcohol or did drugs. He didn’t do steroids like people do now days.
