"All thoughtful people recognize that cruelty is an evil that should be eradicated from our society, not merely for the sake of animals, but for our own good. We know that cruelty whether to animals or men, causes in the perpetrator a moral and cultural erosion that is harmful to the whole society," said Myers. Fred Myers is the co-founder of the Humane Society, who fought for animal's rights from the slaughterhouse and cruelty. Myers is a hero because he had many heroic traits, such as compassion and determination.

Before the Humane Society, he was a writer, and found out about the cruelties animals were facing. This inspired him to get deeper information about it, so he could protest against it. Myers grouped up the information and wrote an article about these cruelties, leading him to become the    co-founder of the Humane Society.

Fred Myers is a hero to many because he has compassion and he is determined. First off, he is compassionate because he cared for animals who were suffering from unfair treatment such as slaughterhouse and the pound. For example, their motto states, "Celebrating animals, confronting cruelty" ( Unti 2005 ). This shows that Myers stands up for the animals and treats them right by creating the Humane Society for them. Fred Myers is also determined because he kept on working toward his goal. The text says, "Humane slaughter took up most of the organization's resources. Myers even had a 2 hour testimony at congress" ( Unti 2005 ). Therefore, this demonstrates that Fred was not willing to give up to help these animals get what they deserve.

Myers had a long term impact to most animal lovers. Today, animals are saved around the United States every day. The HSUS has been running for 61 years (1954-2015 and still running), and several Humane Societies are built everywhere.  He has had a giant impact on many people's lives.

To conclude, Fred Myers was a great man who stood up for animal rights and was the co-founder of the Humane Society. He is a hero to many because he was compassionate and dedicated. "Hundreds of social societies could lift their eyes from local problems to a great national cruelty." -Fred Myers
