"Let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself."  This quote was said by Franklin D. Roosevelt during his presidential inauguration, he was the 32nd president of the United States. He led the U.S. through very tough times and that is why he is considered heroic to many people.

Franklin was influenced by his cousin, Theodore Roosevelt during his childhood.  Then he ran for New York State Governor and won the election.  Then when the Great Depression hit, the Republicans were blamed and since he was Democratic, he took the opportunity.  He ran for president successfully in 1932 and that was when his heroism started.

Franklin D. Roosevelt is considered a hero to many because he showed persistence and valor during his presidency by helping the U.S. fight through WWII and The Great Depression.   FDR is persistent because when he got polio he didn't give up and he kept fighting for the U.S.  As stated in the text,  "Over the next several years, Roosevelt worked to improve his physical and political image.  He taught himself to walk short distances in his braces and was careful not to be seen in public using his wheelchair" (Biography.com Editors).  This shows he is a hero because even though he had this huge problem that challenged him to walk, he still fought and tried to help the U.S. and he taught himself to walk short distances in braces to show he could keep strong through hard times, like the U.S. needed to during the Great Depression and WWII.    He created new programs that helped the U.S., as stated in the article," Roosevelt faced the greatest crisis in American history since the Civil War.  In his first 100 days, President Franklin Roosevelt proposed sweeping economic reform, calling it the 'New Deal' "(Biography.com Editors).  This evidence shows his valor because within a couple of months as president he faced a great crisis and he already started to help the Americans through tough times by coming up with creative, new helpful programs that still exist today.  Roosevelt is a very heroic and important president that didn't just change things during his presidency but had a lasting effect on people now in the United States of America.Roosevelt created "New Deal" programs that still help U.S. citizens today. He created the Social Security Act that helps Americans that are unemployed, disabled, or old with money support.  He also created the AAA that supports farm prices, the CCC that employs young men, and the NRA that regulates wages and prices.  Roosevelt also created organizations that today still regulate the stock market and help with mortgages.  Roosevelt helped millions of people during his presidency and has helped millions after his death as well.Franklin D. Roosevelt is a hero because he led the U.S. through one of the toughest times in history.  He showed persistence when he got polio like the U.S. had to during the Great Depression and WWII.  He showed valor when he faced one of the biggest problems in history and started to solve the problems instantly, and created programs that still help millions of Americans today.  He wasn't only an American hero, he was also a role model because he showed people not to give up when things are hard.  He had to face the biggest crisis while not even being able to walk without crutches,  yet he still solved the problems that millions of Americans had.
