My name is Walaa and I am from Jerusalem. I am 14 years old. I am a student in the eighth grade at Shufat School for Girls.
Fadwa Touqan was one of the most distinguished Palestinian poets in the Arab world. Fadwa was also an advocate of women's rights, and through her poetry reflected the hardships faced by women in the male-dominated Arab world. I am a female student and I care a lot about women and their roles in society. Fadwa is my hero because her writings focused on Palestinian women's lack of education and cultural opportunities. She is my role model because she knew how difficult it is growing up as a woman in a conservative society.
I am looking forward to being like her and to work on achieving the rights of women.
