If you ask me who is a hero and an amazing inspiration I would say Fauja Singh. You may have heard of him before but if not, keep reading and you can learn about this unbelievable person. He shows people all around the world that you are never too old for anything; at the age of 100 he broke the world record for the oldest man to complete a marathon. He didn't come in first place, in fact he was last but it didn't matter because all he cared about was finishing. It took him 8 hours 11 minutes and 5.9 seconds but he finished and finished proud.

Fauja Singh was born in Beas Pind, Jalandhar, India on April 1, 1911 and is currently living in Surrey. As a little boy he wasn't into any sports and didn't start walking until the age of 5 because his legs were very weak. In the year of 1992 Fauja had been through a lot as his 81 year old wife, Gian Kaur, had passed away and he had been getting lonely. His son brought him to the UK so they could spend time together but his son's unexpected death at the age of 41 left Fauja heartbroken once again. After his son's death he officially immigrated to the UK to live with his other son so that the family could move on together. Even with everything that happened to him that year, he pushed himself through it all.

At the age of 89 he started to take running seriously by running his first marathon. Most people would have stopped with sports and exercising around that age but this was the start for Fauja. He has run 8 marathons and set many records and every single race he runs he says. "The first 20 miles are not difficult. As for the last six miles, I run while talking to God."

Some people may not believe that Fauja Singh is a hero for what he has done just because he didn't save someone's life or something along the lines of that, but he is an extraordinary inspiration so he is my hero. We all go through hard times and some of us even give up but he found a way to take up his time doing something he loves, running. This gave him less time to be upset and kept him happier, and healthier.
