Falucho

by Andrew from Buenos Aires

Falucho was my hero. Falucho was a very loyal dog. I had a motto for him, and it fit very well: Wherever I go he goes. That meant inside my grandmother's camp. He was very courageous because he protected a bird that had been threatened by a rottweiler called Sheba. He was also very adaptable in the sense that he has a very large terrain to move in and he adapts to hunt and to hide.

My hero is Falucho. The first time I went to my grandmother's farm I had foolishly not told my parents that I was going on a bike ride. I was five years old and had gone to a place that I had never been to before and I was riding a tall bicycle and fell off it. I called out to see if anybody was around and then a while afterwards Falucho appeared. He stayed with me and then left after a while of petting him. Now I know I should have followed him because he was most probably going back to the farm house, but at that time my body was aching and I didn't have the energy to do so.

A while after this had happened he came back in front of a pick-up truck and Ricardo was driving it. Ricardo is a man who still today works at my grandmother's camp and he's a good friend of ours. Then he offered to take me home. I answered, like a hurt and hungry five year old would, yes. Falucho lived on my grandmother's farm. He lived from 1997-2001. Soon afterward his fourth birthday he was run over by a man that worked on the farm with a pick-up truck. Falucho helped people around the farm and cheered everyone up when they felt down.

Falucho could closely be related to Jonathan Frisby in the book Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, because Mr. Frisby helped the rats open the screen and escape and helped them along the way, and Falucho worked around the farm and helped cheer everyone up. Therefore it makes him a "Hero on the spot."

Falucho is very brave to have stood up to many dangerous dogs that we have and he worked day and night with no reward whatsoever, and even though I miss that little black curly haired dog with bright green eyes; and even though he isn't here with us today, I still like to visit him in my dreams.
