Ever since I was born, I loved fashion. When I grow up I want to be a famous fashion designer just like Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel. Gabrielle and I have some things in common. First of all, we have the same first name, which I think is cool. Second of all, we both have a passion for fashion. Gabrielle also doesn’t care what people think about her style, which I think is a quality of a hero, itself.

Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel was born in Saumur, Southern France, 1883. The first thing she ever designed was hats. She designed them in Paris first, then Deauville in 1908. After this, she opened a fashion boutique in 1914. In 1916, she opened an haute couture salon. Gabrielle was famous for popularizing practical clothing, including pants, little black dresses, and box-like collar jackets with bias edging and brass buttons. The first fabric she used was wool jersey, which was comfortable but not considered for fashion clothing. The accessories Chanel designed were multiple strands of pearls and gold chains, quilted bags with shoulder straps made out of gold chain, sling-black pumps in ivory with black toes, and gardenias. One of my favorite things about her designing is that she mixes fake jewels with real ones and often combines them to sportswear.

Chanel had to abruptly stop her business because of World War I and World War II, in which her store did not re-open until 1953. In 1969, a Broadway Musical, starring Katharine Hepburn was based on Chanel’s life. In mid-1997, Gabrielle acquired the French well-known beach stylist, Eres. Chanel is also a member of Chambre Syndicale de la Huate Couture et du Pret-a-Porter. Her store also sold men’s pullover sweatshirts and sailor jackets. As soon as her clothes became a hit she didn’t stop; she made a perfume called Chanel No. 5. She continued her fashion line as she grew older. After her death in her Paris apartment, first her assistant designers designed the couture. Karl Lagerfeld took over haute couture and rehashed her trademark styles annually in various fabrics.

Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel is a hero to others near and far. She fits this kind of hero because she showed her passion for fashion and wasn’t afraid of failing. She didn’t care what people thought about her style and it showed in her innovative and spontaneous designs. She has made a difference in the world with her fashion line. She has inspired me and everyone to make a difference. She wanted people to feel comfortable in their own skin and just be who they are.

This sums it up on why Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel is my hero. She has been determined to make clothes and doesn’t care what other people think. She has designed some wonderful clothes that I would wear. When and if I become a fashion designer, I will dedicate my fashion line to Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel. She has inspired me and others to make a difference and be themselves. Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel is a true hero to me.
