George Eastman

by Ellen from New York

George Eastman is a true hero. He brought photography to a new level and invented a hand held camera that people use today. The company that produced the cameras was called Kodak Cameras. The camera could hold one hundred pictures. When people were done taking the pictures, they would have to take the cameras back to the company to be redeveloped. Another way George Eastman was a hero is that he donated to many different causes.

George Eastman had a rough childhood. His father died when he was only eight years old. He had nine brothers and sisters. George attended the Hampton Academy when he was a boy. George Eastman was born in Waterville New York on July 12th 1854. He moved to Rochester in 1860.

Some Challenges (problems) in George Eastman’s life were his mother died in 1907. Also his sister died in 1884. His father died when he was eight years old! He had to go to work to support his family.

George Eastman made many contributions. One was that he made a donation to a dental school. Also he started a school of medicine at the University Of Rochester. He supported medical research and developed an inexpensive hand-held camera for taking pictures. George also established the Kodak Company.

George also received some awards and recognitions. One was he won a gold medal in the London International Inventions Exhibition. The British Journal Of Photography wrote an article of George’s inventions. George entered his invention in other exhibits and won awards. As you can see George Eastman won many awards.

George had many character traits. First he was intelligent. He was intelligent because he invented a hand-held camera, he studied photography journals, and he set up his own business. Another trait is generous. He is generous because he donated millions of dollars to the University of Rochester, he donated money to a vet hospital, and he donated to the Tuskegee Institute. The third trait is hard-working. He is hard-working because he kept trying to find a solution to his foggy film, and he continued to work at a bank even though he was working on an invention.

In conclusion, George Eastman was a hero in many ways. He was a very good man and brought photography to the people in a very useful and interesting way.
