George Lucas

by Sarah from Williamsville

George Lucas is the creator of Star Wars. George has inspired me, other kids, and even adults with his brave behavior. George took risks that I want to take. George did amazing things in his life. He changed everyone's lives on May 25, 1977. On that day, everyone crowded around the theater and their lives were changed by his amazing work.

George Lucas had many life lessons in his childhood. George was born on May 14th, 1944. When George was a kid, he had terrible grades. His high grades were Ds, and sometimes Cs. When it came to his life at home, his parents weren't so happy. George's father wanted him to take over the family company when he was older, L. M. Morris, while his mother was worried about his grades for college. Years later, George wanted to be like other high school teens, so he started race car driving and hanging with girls. When he got into a huge car crash, he knew he was headed in the wrong direction. George was in a convertible, so when he crashed into someone, the car flipped about four or five times and the car brought him to a crash out through the roof. After he got out of the hospital, George decided to do something logical with his life. He noticed that with his D average, he might not even be able to go to college. When he was a kid he thought school was a waste of his time, so when he found out that he could choose if he wanted to go to college, he was fine with not going. In fact, he was happy. He stuck with that until that crash. George was ready to go from Ds, to As! George went to the University of South Carolina (USC), where he started making films. His teachers were proud of his constant As, and didn't think it was possible that he had low grades in grade school. George was their best student. In 1971, George's first full length movie came out, THX: 1138. People were amazed at his moviemaking ability for a college student. Then he graduated from USC in 1973. As you can see, George had many life lessons in his childhood.

George Lucas changed people's lives. When George created Star Wars, he changed people's perspective of things. For example, people may now wonder if there really are other planets or universes that are yet to be discovered. From that much special effects, the ships, planets and space stations looked real. Did you know that all of the things in space are just toys or dolls on a blue screen? He is known around the world because people love his movies. Even though he made and helped with other movies other than Star Wars, when people hear the two words George Lucas, all they hear is Star Wars. George Lucas changed people's lives.

George Lucas did other things than just create Star Wars. He produced, wrote, and directed other movies. He was executive producer and writer for a late 1950s based movie called American Graffiti. American Graffiti was based on George's early years. He won the teen movie award for American Graffiti. He was also cast producer for all the Indiana Jones movies. George also created Lucasfilm Ltd. Some years later, George created the THX sound system. As you can see, George Lucas did other things than just create Star Wars.

George Lucas had lots of obstacles in his life. When George was in grade school, he got teased a lot. People called him dumb because of all of his low grades. Even in his adulthood, people thought he was crazy for what he was doing. George knew what he was doing and was not ready to give up. Even though George didn't have much money, he was ready to take those obstacles, and turn them into something worth waiting for. Did you know that before Luke Skywalker was Luke Skywalker, he was Luke Starkiller? On the first day of shooting, critics thought that Starkiller was too violent, so George had to change it. George wasn't happy, but the name seemed to work out well. Now you can see that George Lucas had many obstacles in his life.

George Lucas had many character traits. First, George was a risk-taker. When people said that he could not make that much special effects in his movies, he took a risk and he succeeded. In the end, his Star Wars movies had 88% special effects! That was a lot for the late 1970s. He also created THX sound system, even though the public thought he was crazy. Next, George was determined. He was willing to do anything to prove that he could be himself. Even though he was crazy, he woke up every day feeling proud of what he was doing. Lastly, George was curious. He was curious if he could do as much as he does now. He was also curious because he always wondered if there was even such thing as he was dreaming. What he didn't know was there was. Now you know, George Lucas had many character traits

An important lesson someone else or I might learn from George Lucas' life is something that I struggle with. The lesson is that it doesn't matter what other people think of you, that doesn't make it true. George didn't let other people talk him out of what he believed in. That, I think, is one important lesson.

As you can see, George Lucas has a very interesting life.
