Father Gabriel Mejia

1. MY HERO GABRIEL MEJIA

Gabriel Mejia is a person that picks up poor kids from the street. He was born in Medellin, Colombia. His mother inspired him to help and to be humane, spiritual and nice. When he was 13 years old he went to study to the Seminary to become a priest. Then he went to Europe to study economics and finances with the Catholic Church. He was then promoted to director of the Seminary in Medellin. In his free time he started to help kids that were abandoned in the street.

A lot of people asked him to help kids that were drugged in the street. Then he went to Rome to study the problems of drug addicts for 6 months. In 1984 he convinced 18 people to buy a house for people that were addicted to drugs. That was the start of the foundation “Hogares Claret”. Today “Hogares Claret” has 54 houses helping kids in all of Colombia.

2. WHY IS FATHER MEJIA A HERO?

Father Mejia is sacrificing his time to help kids in the street. Father Mejia always is willing to help kids. All types of kids are welcome in his foundation. Father Mejia is able to convince people and governments to give money to this foundation.

3. HOW DOES FATHER MEJIA HELP?

Father Mejia helps kids in these ways:

LOVE: the most important medicine for kids is love. All teachers need to be full of love to educate.
MEDITATION: Helps kids to be spiritual and keeps them peaceful.
YOGA: keeps kids away from violence

Father Mejia also teaches them how to make bread, make things with wood, make their own clothing, grow crops and taking care of farm animals

4. WHO DOES FATHER MEJIA HELP?

Father Mejia helps kids and adults with all kinds of problems. Father Mejia has helped more than 45,000 people. Today more than 1,500 kids are picked a month. Today they have 3,500 kids in the homes.

5. HOW CAN WE HELP FATHER MEJIA?

We can help by giving kids in the foundation our old clothes, giving thoughts of love to them. Try it.
