A hero to me is an individual who does things out of the ordinary. A hero is someone that we all can look up to as an individual and as an example for all mankind. According to dictionary.com, A hero is a man of distinguished courage, of ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. Also a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is reguarded as a model or ideal. To me Glen Davis is my hero. A hero goes through obstacles and triumphs to become a hero. In my eyes he’s my hero because he inspired me to become the person who I became today!

Ronald “Big Baby” Glen Davis was born January 1, 1986. He likes and prefers to go by Glen. He was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisana. He is the son of Donald Robertson and Tonya Davis. He has five other siblings. His nickname is Big Baby. He played college basketball for the LSU (Louisana State University) Tigers and now plays for the Boston Celtics.

Growing up, Glen has been through a lot off the court. With the involvement of basketball, football and track and field events, Glen has been able to concentrate on his studies and was able to rise above his trials and tribulations. Davis still seems to find happiness on the basketball court and is able to call it his santuary. Collis Temple has been there like a father for Glen. He says that, with all he’s been through, it makes him stronger. In his junior year of College, Glen overcame a huge obstacle and that has been his weight. Losing 40 to 50 pounds since starting college, Glen lost over 25 pounds over the summer before first coming into the new NBA season. After reading about this in a recent newspaper article, this inspired me to want to lose weight and get in shape. Glen is known for being “ big baby” for his size. Now I'm sure the name probably doesn’t really fit him any more. Most of my life, I’ve been dealing with my size and now after reading his article, I’ve found inspiration to lose weight and now over 45 pounds lighter, I give most of the credit to reading his article. It inspired me to play basketball and lose the weight I use to have.

Glen Davis attended high school at University High School in Louisana where he was a McDonalds All-American, named 2004 Louisana Player of the year by Gatorade, named 2004 Louisana Athlete of the year by Baton Rouge Advocate, selected Mr.Basketball by the Louisana Sports Writers Association, and earned 2004 Louisana Class 2A MVP honors and was named MVP of the Top 28 Class 2A state tournament. He averaged 26.4 ppg., 14.3 rpg., and 4.0 bpg., as a senior. While in high school he played tailback for University High football team and shotput for the track and field team. In his Sophmore year of college, Glen won honors of National Player of the Year candidate, 2006 SEC Player of the year, and 2006 Wooden Award All-American.

By overcoming all his obstacles and becoming one of the best basketball players at the college level and then helping the Boston Celtics win a World Championship, Glen “Big Baby” Davis is the defininition of a hero is to me.
