George Strait ( (coolchaser.com)) |
My hero is George Strait, a country music legend! Some even say he is the king of country music and a legendary cowboy. George Strait is my hero because his music makes me happy when I am down and he ropes like my dad and I do. In the roping rodeo their are two types of ropers, the headers and the healers. George is a header! The headers rope the steers' horns and the healer's rope the steers' heels. George is a musician and also an actor; like in the 1990's movie "Pure Country" in which he starred. George Strait was born in Poteet, Texas on May 18, 1952 where, as a child, he joined a garage rock and roll band. On the week days he would spend his time in town and on the weekends he would head back to his family's ranch that has been in his family for over one hundred years. Country music calls George a living legend.

George Strait was enlisted in the army on 1971 and was stationed in Hawaii. In Hawaii, Strait had a band called "Rambling Country", an army sponsored band. The singer ended up returning to Texas in 1975 and attempted to complete his education in southwest Texas University in San Marcos. Soon after, he formed his own country band "Ace in The Hole"! After making this band, Strait made a few records for "D" a Texas music company. Yet, they were never noticed...until later! Toward the end of the 70's George became friends with Erv Woosley a former employee of MCA records and also invited a couple of their executives to listen to him sing. They thought he was so good that they signed him, and after that it was hit after country music hit!

When George Strait won his first country music of the year award he said, "I burst into tears and cried like a baby!" then he laughed hysterically. It "Was always my dream to win that award," said George in one of his interviews. Country music is his legacy and his life. George was soon told that he had possibly had the most hits in country music. This inspired him to create the album "George 50 Number Ones Strait".

George Strait now has 85 top hits in the country music business. His idols are Merle Haggard, George Jones, and Hank Williams; which are also honky tonk and fiddle band legends. George sings mostly love songs but he also sings a variety of swing type music like "Unwound" or "Down and Out". Those are two of my favorite songs of his. George Strait influences people not only in their singing career; but in their roping career.

George Strait is my idol and my hero, and he is to many other people in America. He has sold more albums than anybody in the business. This singer will always be the king of country and my favorite artist. Country music can never replace him!
