Ron Ehlert

Ron Ehlert Web (I made it.)

My hero is my grandpa Ron Ehlert. He was born and raised in the small town, Magreth, Alberta. He really enjoyed living there because he had lots of relatives nearby. He has two older sisters (Karma and Renee) who were much older than him. He also has one older brother, Bruce who is only 3 years older than him. Grandpa played with his brother and was quite close with him. Grandpa was also really close with his dad, Lawrence Ehlert, because he taught him lots of things including carpentry, painting, how to work hard and lots of sports. Grandpa`s mom, Winnie Ehlert loved Grandpa. When Grandpa played sports, his mom would always cheer him on. She would always brag about him, and she seriously thought he was the best. The family was very active. They did lots of sports including baseball, basketball, golf, tennis, curling and swimming. They were a family that didn`t spend more money then they had, so they lived in a house that was only a basement, until Grandpa was 12. After that, his dad built their second floor. Grandpa enjoyed math, science and recess in school. When he was 10, he wasn`t thinking about a job, but when he got older, he started to think about becoming an architect or engineer. Grandpa`s currently a landscape architect and business man.

My grandpa is a remarkable person. I think this is because he is a trustworthy man, a great father, business man, a great role model and a hard worker. Grandpa learned to tell the truth always. This helped him through life because everyone believes him. Even though Grandpa`s dad didn`t give Grandpa much money, he helped him learn important lessons like how to work hard and to be honest. One of the rules Grandpa learned is to work hard first, then play. An example of this is his cabin on Shuswap lake. This is because he and his family worked on it before they played there. Now we get to play at the cabin. Grandpa graduated from Utah State University in landscape architecture. Grandpa has founded the following businesses: Landplan Associates, Landtree Homes, Elbow Springs Golf Course and Boulder Creek Golf Course. All of these buinesses have been sucessful. Grandpa was also president of the NGCOA (National Golf Course Owners Assocation) Canadian chapter and was part of the American board.

Grandpa has also been very active in his church, and has even been bishop of the Mormon church for 7 years. Of course, everyone makes mistakes and that incudes my grandpa. For example, Grandpa told me that he had once treated a boy poorly when he was young. He realized that he did the wrong thing, so from then on, he tried to treat everyone fairly. To Grandpa, his fanily is the most important thing in his life. Grandpa and Grandma (Sharon Ehlert)are best friends. In the summer, Grandpa lives next to his golf course and in the winter, Grandpa lives in Palm Springs, California.

When Grandpa was young, he got lots of awards for all the sports he played. As he got older, he was on the grade 12 basketball team and won the provincials. He was named MVP. In University he was selected as "Outstanding Student" in his department for 2 years. Next month, he`s getting recognized at the Utah State University for his contributions to landscape architecture and business.

I chose Ron Ehlert for my hero because of his honesty. Like I said, Grandpa`s so honest everyone trusts him. I also chose him because of his love towards his family. Granpda always treats me fairly and kindly. When I`m older, I want to be like Grandpa. This is why I call Grandpa a hero.
