George Kenneth Griffey Jr.

by Ethan from Hampton

"Ken Griffey Jr is the best talent in our generation." -David Cone and Alex Rodríguez describing Griffey Jr.

When I was young, and first started really getting into baseball, there was one person who stood out and dominated the highlight reels. That person was George Kenneth Griffey Jr.

Between his monster home runs, and spectacular diving and leaping catches, it was hard as an aspiring diehard baseball fan to not love his style of play, hard work ethic and easy laidback personality.

Griffey Jr. was born in 1969 as a son of an MLB player. His father Ken Griffey Sr. played for the Reds and Junior grew up around the Diamond.

Jr. became the 1st overall draft pick in the 1897 MLB draft to the Mariners, and he got to play with his father. In 1991, they became the 1st father-son combination to hit back to back homeruns.

While not dominating like in early years before the injuries, Griffey still puts up good numbers and is clearly a first ballot hall of famer. Griffey Jr. is and always will be my favorite player, and is the reason I'm such a big baseball fan today.
