Helen Adams Keller was born on June 27 1980 Tuscumbia, Alabama, U.S.A. She was eighteen months old when she got sick and lost her hearing and sight. She was not able to talk to or hear people. Helen's parents found a special teacher for Helen. Her name was Anne Sullivan.
Anne taught Helen how to do sign language. She also taught her how to talk. Helen went to the Perkins School for the Blind. She learned to read Braille at the school. Helen had to work hard every day to learn new things.
In 1894 Helen and Anne moved to New York City to attend the Wright-Humason School for the Deaf and Horace Mann School for the Deaf. When Helen finished school, she went all over the world to talk to people about her experiences. Many people were interested in Helen and inspired by her. Helen helped the American Foundation for the Blind and raised over two million dollars for the foundation.
I am inspired by Helen Keller because she learned how to speak and communicate with others even though she was deaf and blind. She worked hard to help others.
