Hugh Barnes

by Jack from Savannah

My hero is my dad. I chose my dad as my hero because I look up to him. I have known my dad my whole entire life. He is forty-five years old. His job is managing Barnes restaurant. My dad went to college at the University of Georgia, I want to go there just like him. The University of Georgia is where my dad met my mom.

My dad is a hero in many ways. My dad is extremely intelligent. Each day at work someone might do something wrong. My dad will be a leader and show him how to do it the right way. Every day he also has to fill out loads of paperwork for orders or catering. Every now and then he’ll have to go set up the catering himself at a festival or park. My dad can also be brave. Once he was in a Seven Eleven and while he was checking out a group of men came in and pointed a gun at him. My dad stayed calm and handed over his wallet. They put everyone in the freezer and drove away quickly. When my dad got home he told my mom what happened. He was thankful no one got hurt.

My dad can also be compassionate. When either my brother or I are feeling pretty bad, he will come and comfort us like a good father. Once he even put his car in the middle of the road to escort some ducks across the road. My dad is not like an ancient Greek hero. He does not fight creatures. He doesn’t carry a sword either. He is a modern day hero. My dad is a true leader. He is someone people should look up to. Many people respect him. He does what he thinks is right. He works at something until he achieves it. And most importantly he does not brag about what he does. I want to be just like my dad, and that is why my dad is my hero.
