Reading without seeing (http://5thsocialstudies.pbwiki.com/f/Helen%20Keller.jpg) |
There are many people who have been a remarkable influence in my life, but Helen Adam Keller is the one that really stands out in my mind because her life accomplishments help me to build my life values. Therefore, Helen Keller is the hero I admire. Helen Keller was born in June 27, 1880 in Tuscumbia, which is a small rural town in Northwest Alabama, USA; and her miraculous life extinguished on June 1, 1968. After her 88 years of life, her lectures and writings have ignited hopes for many people with disabilities. Moreover, her perseverance and her optimism for life have influenced many generations of healthy people.

When H.A.Keller was a kid (http://5thsocialstudies.pbwiki.com/f/Helen%20Keller-kid.jpg) |
Helen Keller was not blind and deaf when she was born. During the 19th month of her life wrong medicine was used on her and caused the lovely girl to lose her ability to see and hear permanently. Her parents, after a year of meticulous care, eventually became desperate about her. After seeking help, Helen Keller finally met the most important person in her life, Anne Sullivan. As their bond started to grow, a miracle happened to Helen Keller. Unlike before, Helen Keller became a well- mannered girl and learned to read with her fingers. Years later, the phenomenal girl grew up and became a well-known writer as her first book “The Story of My Life” was published. Later on, Helen Keller kept working as a social worker, working hard to better the lives of the blind and deaf people. Her books and lectures revealed her own feelings and perspectives to the world as a serious disabled person. Then as Helen’s astonishing books became popular in all parts of the world, more and more disabled people began to feel they had the ability to learn, to work and most importantly, to dream. At the same time, many healthy people saw Helen Keller as a role model of one who never gave up hope and life.
I, as one of the numerous people who admire Helen Keller, truly believe the values that Helen Keller shares are the most valuable things among her legacy. Her autobiography tells us how she herself as a blind and deaf person, accomplished a series of successes and contributions to our society. It would be extremely hard for me to do things when I have either of the two unfortunate circumstances. However, Helen Keller uses her life to prove to me that nothing is impossible to do as long as you have your dream and perseverance in achieving it. Therefore it is she who has helped me build my values in life.
