Helen Keller Introduction: Helen Keller was blind and deaf. She was born June 27th 1880. Sadly she passed in 1968.She was 88 years old. Helen was born and raised in Tuscumbia, Alabama.
She wanted to talk and sign. That was all Helen wanted to do, but it was nearly impossible. But thanks to her teacher Anne Sullivan she did it! Anne would trace words on Helen's hand until she finally sounded them out and said it. The first word Helen had learned was water. Another thing that she had done was learned to read braille. Anne would trace the regular letters Helen already knew on her hand. Then she would let Helen feel the braille. Helen soon learned the entire braille alphabet. She would read as many braille books she could get her hands on. And what I would think of as her biggest accomplishment. She went to college. Helen had always known she wanted an education. So she tried to go, but couldn't do anything! Soon she tried again and this time she brought Anne with her. Anne would trace everything that the teacher said on Helen's hand. It was hard but Helen and Anne did it
Helen was very determined. She was determined because she tried and tried to do one thing. And after she beat that goal she set another one. And she would do that. Helen was also very smart. She couldn't speak or spell. She didn't even know English words in her head so the fact that she learned to speak and to read braille is an amazing thing to show she is very smart. One last word that I think describes Helen is that she has perseverance. Helen had perseverance because she failed a few times but then she got right back up and tried again.
Conclusion:
I think of Helen Keller as a hero because she shows that no matter how hard something is you can do it. That no matter what happens you should always try. And that to me is truly amazing because she had so many reasons to quit but she didn't. She kept on trying no matter how hard it was, or how many times she failed.
