"OPTIMISM IS THE FAITH THAT LEADS TO ACHIEVEMENT. NOTHING CAN BE DONE WITHOUT HOPE AND CONFIDENCE"
~HELEN KELLER
Helen Keller, born on June 27th, 1880 in Tuscumbia, Alabama, was a very strong and brave women. She has many positive traits that show her heroic ability. At 19 months Helen lost her sight and her capability to hear. During the time of her disability it was hard for her, her family members and her mentor Anne Sullivan. Through the rough times Helen managed to stay determined and hardworking. Helen Keller grew up finding positivity in learning the English language, writing and reading. For many reasons Helen is a hero. She is classified as a motivator. Her goal was to help other children with the same disability as her. She wanted them to learn as she did. Helen graduated from Radcliffe College. She was also the first deaf/blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree. Helen eventually became a world famous author, and wrote many memorable speeches. She learned sign language and braille.

Helen had a motivation to help others succeed as she did. Imagine not being able to see, hear and barely talk, but still finding joy in serving for others with the same problems as her. That is why she is a hero. Not only did she want to learn new things, she wanted other disabled children to grow up with the same advice and experience of having a mentor by their side. She was such a caring individual and wanted others to have the satisfaction of understanding their affliction. Finding positivity in what she had to deal with was such an accomplishment because what Helen had to cope with was very difficult. Everyone to this day is very impressed with her determination and her self-confidence. She strived to get others at the same level as her. She wanted others to prosper as she did. All she wanted was happiness from others, and achievement of others.

Another reason why Helen was very much of a hero was because having the impairment Helen managed to graduate from a very advanced college (Radcliffe College). She was also the first deaf/blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Helen Keller became a pacifist, one who protested involvement of World War I. She had many beliefs that she stood up for. I think this made her a hero because she inspired so many. So many people to this day are so encouraged by the actions she took 100 years ago.

The third reason Helen Keller comes as a hero to me is because all her hard work payed off. Her determination to do great benefited her greatly. She became a world class famous author. She also wrote incredibly famous speeches. When she was just 22 she published her first story. It was an autobiography called The Story of My Life. And another called The Light in My Darkness. Many more were written such as The World I Live in, and Out of the Dark and plenty more to a total of 12. They were read by many people. Keller's public speeches are what inspired others most. She poured her heart and soul into what she wrote. Her writings were about her childhood, the obstacles she went through, and she often wrote about her mentor Anne Sullivan. "Walking with a friend in the dark, is better than walking alone in the light." This was a quote from Helen Keller about her mentor Anne Sullivan that she valued so much. Helen's speeches were her expressing her beliefs as well, she also encouraged raising funds for charities.

For all these reasons and plenty more, show why Helen is a true hero. Helen worked as hard for others as she did for herself, she also ended up with a fantastic education and several accomplishments. Helen Keller overcame the negativity and embraced life enthusiastically. She did have many challenges as a kid. She was able to go through an amazing and successful journey with all difficulties. This adventure was definitely tough for her, but she stayed positive, and believed she would flourish. Not being able to see or hear but still being capable of writing, talking, and much much more. As you can see, Helen Keller was much in fact a true inspiring hero for me and plenty others. Helen Keller died on June 1st, 1968, leaving her spirit as a heroic legend.
