HeeAh Lee

by EunJi from Hyderabad, India

Heroes are people who are regarded our most admiration. I praise my hero, Hee Ah Lee for her strong efforts, courage and perseverance. Hee Ah Lee, known as ‘The Four-Fingered Pianist’, is a God-sent miracle who has been inspiring people all around the world by her piano performance.

Hee Ah was born in South Korea, on July 9th, 1985. She overcame numerous obstacles like being born with only two fingered present on each hand, no legs below kneecaps, and a slight brain damage which would have been a sufficient reason for normal people to give up any hope in life. She did her best to overcome her disabilities. Hee Ah started playing piano at six, not necessarily to become a pianist but to strengthen her hands which at the time could not even hold a pencil. As time went by, piano became her source of inspiration and her best friend.

“The piano has provided me with many benefits- consolation, courage, gratitude and compassion.” -Hee Ah

"In 1992, she won the First Prize at the Korean National Student Music Contest, and has since won many more contests and has also played in many solo-concerts along with playing with many well-known artists. She was even awarded by the then President of Korea, DaeJong Kim, for Overcoming Physical Difficulty. She has also been recognized as one of the best students in Seoul by the Korean Education Department." (Wikipedia)

“I hope people are inspired by the idea ‘Yes, I can do anything’ while listening to me play.”

“Do not compare yourself to others. Try hard to become whatever you want to be.” -Hee Ah

Hee Ah is highly diligent and patient. She is an encouragement for people like her. We can learn about patience and that if you try your best, achieve your goal.

“My goal in life is to share my experiences with others, especially with those who may be undergoing a difficult struggle in their life. I hope to return what I’ve received from God to you.” -Hee Ah
