Harriet Tubman

"Mah people mus' go free." This is one of Harriet Tubman's most famous quotes, she knew that God had called on her to free her fellow people. Harriet Tubman was an African American,  who grew up when slavery was legal. When she grew up, she escaped and became free. She later helped free other slaves and also worked with the underground railroad. She is heroic because she freed so many slaves from the terrible clutches of slavery.

Harriet Tubman grew up as a slave and endured hard work every day. She knew what others were struggling with. When Tubman became free, she already knew what others were suffering from and this influenced her into helping slaves become free. Harriet Tubman shows many heroic traits by helping people in need.

Harriet Tubman is a hero to many because she is selfless and determined. During Harriet Tubman's life time,  slavery was happening in the south, this was a time where African Americans were not being treated as humans and were put to work day after day doing back-breaking tasks with little to no pay. This drove Tubman to make a difference and free her people. The text states, " Harriet feared her family and other slaves were facing severe punishment and so she decided to go back and help free them" (Biography.com Editors). This evidence tells the reader that Harriet Tubman risked her life to go free others even though she could have been be caught and endure severe punishment for escaping. Harriet also showed she was determined when she urged others on when they wanted to give up. No escaping slave was lost or allowed to turn back with Tubman leading them ( History.com 1991).  This evidence shows, Harriet Tubman was determined to bring every slave she helped to freedom, even if they wanted to give up. In conclusion, Harriet Tubman is both selfless and determined  because she put her life in jeopardy to free other slaves and determined because she never allowed a slave to turn back.
