Nathan Hale, one of 12 children, was born in Coventry,on June 6, 1775. He was athletic, and was an honest person. He had a thirst for knowledge, and was admired for his mathematic prowess.
He entered Yale collage in 1769. He graduated in 1773. He taught school for a year. He was one of the few men who believed that girls should be educated. He held classes for girls early in the morning, before their brothers came.
In 1775 he joined the patriots in the fight for freedom. He was made a captain, and then became a Ranger. Later he Became George Washington's spy. He was caught in a British camp where he was searched. The British found his notes and drawings.
He was hung in New York City. Before his death he spoke these awe inspiring words,"I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country." It was then that the hangman's rope took his life.
Nathan Hale has impacted my life greatly. His honesty, his loyalty, and his ability to stand up for what he thought was right, has inspired my attempt to do the same.
