When the word hero comes to mind, people think of someone who did something hard or breathless. A hero can also be someone who has survived something life-threatening, or have gone through really tough times. In my opinion, these are the best types of heroes of all. Jan Halliday is one hero that really made an impact on me.

Jan Halliday was one of hundreds to be diagnosed with breast cancer. Jan had a daughter who was 100 miles away and her husband who was out of town on a trip when she got a call from her doctor. The doctor had the results of her test, which was proven positive for breast cancer. Jan was in the middle of a meeting and just went on with the day like she had never got the call. When Jan went home, she then called her daughter and husband to tell them the bad news.

When Jan went to the hospital for the surgery, her daughter Kristen came rushing there to be with her. Jan had to be in the hospital for five months and Kristen was always by her side. Jan recovered and she continued her life helping others with breast cancer. Jan joined the walkathon and earned thousands of dollars.

Jan Halliday is survivor hero and a hero to others near and far. Jan is a survivor hero because she fought through cancer, with the help of her daughter Kristen. Jan Halliday is also a hero to others near and far because, after she recovered, she raised money for people with breast cancer and she also gave speeches all throughout the world. Jan also organized a meeting for people willing to donate money and they raised up to fifty thousand dollars. Jan and her daughter Kristen also joined the walkathon. This is why Jan is a survivor hero and a hero to others near and far.

Jan Halliday isn’t a hero that everyone thinks of when hero comes to mind. When people think of heroes, they might think of George Washington or someone who did something breathless. People like Jan may not be considered as heroes to other people. But after you have read her story, when someone says hero you might think of her as a great example of a hero. To me, Jan was a great example of a survivor hero and made a great impact on me and I hope it made an impact on you like it did for me.
