Mariel Margaret Hamm

You may have heard of Mia Hamm, the professional soccer player, but did you know that she started her own foundation? Did you know of her leadership skills and her dedication?

Born in March of 1972, Mariel Margaret Hamm (Mia), was born into a loving family. Her father was an air force pilot and his job required that Mia and her family move more often. They never seemed to stay in one place for very long. Her mother's name is Stephanie and her brother's name is Garrett. Otherwise, Mia led a normal childhood life.

Mia is a woman of many qualities, for one she is intelligent. She graduated from the university of North Carolina with excellent grades . Secondly, she is selfless. She created her own bone marrow foundation for the benefit of others. She is willing to put other people's needs before her own. She is driven by dedication and hard work which makes her an ideal leader (Not to mention the many goals in her career!) Mia's also the youngest professional woman soccer player ever. She is very kind. She has devoted a great deal of time to help others by building her bone marrow foundation. Finally, she is strong-willed. When the going gets tough she never gives up. Even if her team is losing she wants them to keep going until the whistle blows.

Mia has done many things to deserve this hero title, like she made a foundation to assist those who desperately need bone marrow transplants. It's called The Mia Hamm Foundation. When her brother Garrett died because they could not locate a bone marrow donor, she knew she had to help all the others with this horrible disease. She's also my hero because I look up to her. I would love to play soccer as well as she does. She started her soccer career at the age of fifteen, which is presently my age. She is a respected and honored woman.

Mia and I have one close connection, we both love soccer. She has accomplished mainly two things. For one, she made it to professional soccer at a young age. Secondly, she made a foundation for bone marrow research for others. She has so many beautiful qualities that I wish I had. That's what makes her my hero.
