As people of this nation we all fight for what we believe. Even when people challenge us, we still fight for our beliefs. Anfernee Hardaway is one of those people. One night a man named Anfernee Hardaway was robbed at gunpoint and when he refused to give up his valuables he was then shot and that night changed his life. After being shot he chose the right path in life, the path to success. When he was in the hospital he realized that almost dying because of violence wasn’t the life for him.

Anfernee Hardaway was born July 18, 1972 in Memphis Tennessee. He got his name because his mother couldn’t pronounce Anthony so the doctor wrote down Anfernee. He was raised by his grandmother; his mother wasn’t there, she was always working. He didn’t have any brothers and sisters. He was taught about basketball when he was young from his father and he started playing ball on the playground in Memphis. There were a lot of people on the playground and it was occasionally dangerous. After he developed his skills, he was the leading scorer at Tradewell High School, and he was named Mr. Tennessee.

He went to Memphis State College. He did not leave all of the violence but he was there to get his education. He did what he had to do, and he played ball, and got into the NBA. He was a hardworking player and he was good at basketball. If he had chosen the life of crime he wouldn't be where he is now. Thanks to good guidance he became a good person. I believe he is a hero because of all the things that happened to him and he still managed to become a strong man who does the right thing.
