Imagine being the best at your at your sport and winning the biggest race in the world for your country. Then bringing the pride back to America. Well, Buddy Melges has on many occasions. That is why he is my hero.

Harry “Buddy” Melges is my hero. During the height of his sailing career Buddy won numerous races, America’s Cup, and many medals at the Olympic Games. Harry Melges is not only successful in sailing, but also in the business world. He is the owner of Melges Performance Sailboats. Buddy is a very successful hero.

Buddy Melges has many distinguishing traits such as bravery, sportsmanship, and intelligence. All though these are great qualities overall Buddy has talent. These traits shape my character and my life.

Buddy shows many actions that inspire me to become a better person. Harry devotes a lot of time getting better at sailing. He also spends time at the yacht club giving instruction to beginners. His attitude and ideals shape my values. Because of Mr. Melges’s actions I have taken every minute sailing as a fun, but serious practice. Over the summer I got involved in teaching a class at the sailing school and helped the regular instructors do their jobs. I have also made many friends and showed kindness to them just as Buddy would. Buddy Melges’s legendary reputation and values mold me as an individual.

In the future I plan to follow in Buddy’s successful foot steps and take his words and actions into my life. Buddy Melges is the greatest sailor ever!!!
