Heroes still exist in present society. Some have made history, some haven't. Some have lived hundreds of years ago, some share the same birth date as me. I recognize, now that I am older, that fame is not a prerequisite for heroism. Sometimes they are connected, sometimes they are not. Some are blaringly obvious, some you have to strain your eyes to see. Heroes come in all different shapes and sizes, big and small. Some may even look like me. Reflecting on what constitutes a hero has lead me to a self-awakening of sorts. I realize now, that I too can be a hero. Maybe to thousands, maybe to a solitary soul. But it's heroism just the same. A hero is a hero, whether they look like Martin Luther King, Jr., Mohandas Gandhi (shown above), or if they look like me, a nameless person walking down the streets of Montclair, NJ. There may be someone out there who thinks I am Superman. There may be someone out there who thinks YOU are Superman. God bless you on this journey. May you recognize all the heroes in your life. More importantly, may you realize the hero in you!
