Isaac Newton

by Alex from San Diego

What if you had the ability to battle through tough situations and achieve great feats in your life with just a small bit if will power, Isaac Newton shows this. Isaac Newton was an amazing physicist and mathematician who had this power and shows how this can be done by anyone. Rather than physics or math, Newton was also a great astronomer and philosopher. He was born in Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, England on December 25, 1642 (Hatch). He attended Trinity College at Cambridge University from 1661-1665 (Domski). Newton also invented calculus, optics, and the three laws of motion, as well as a theory for universal gravitation (Tyle). He eventually died in Kensington, England on March 20, 1727 (Harper). "Newton, Sir Isaac (1642-1727), an English scientist, astronomer, and mathematician, invented a new kind of mathematics, discovered the secrets of light and color, and showed how the universe is held together." (Domski). Domski gives us an insight into this man's story. Isaac Newton, the world renowned scientist, is a hero because of his consistency and his passion for science and mathematics.

Isaac Newton's consistency in his work helped him battle through tough times and helped him achieve his goals and beyond. He even battled through one of the most difficult and intense times of European history: "He had been forced to flee there because of the outbreak of plague in the city of Cambridge. During this time, Newton realized that one and the same force pulls an object to Earth and keeps the moon in its orbit." (Domski). Even while living in the toughest of times, Newton is still in the depths of his studies. He had the determination to continue his work now matter what situation it may be. Tough situations can be overcome for things more important in life. Newton also showed his unrelenting determination during the early days of his life: "We now know that during his undergraduate years Newton was deeply engrossed in private study, that he privately mastered the works of René Descartes, Pierre Gassendi, Thomas Hobbes, and other major figures of the scientific revolution." (Hatch). Newton's self confinement from society helped him understand the greatest of mathematicians. Social confinement allowed him to free his mind and concentrate on what's most important to him. This shows that with great determination leads to a better and brighter future for the sake of oneself. From start to finish, Newton showed how being constant is not affected by how your life is affected, but by how determined you are in doing so.

Isaac Newton's passion for science and mathematics showed how real determination and inspiration comes from within and is what makes a person special even in their own ways. The early stages of his college career show off this trait: "Although Cambridge was an outstanding center of learning, the spirit of the scientific revolution had yet to penetrate its ancient and somewhat ossified curriculum." (Hatch). Newton's real passion for science was never really contributed from his life at Cambridge. He was more concentrated and passionate for things outside of college. This shows that real passion is never really achieved from society but from within. Newton's passion would often oversee most of his inside studies: "Even though he was spending so much time with his books, Isaac never stopped watching the world around him and wondering. He still asked, "Why?" at every step along the way." (Sullivan). Newton had a long time spent reading books, but still was observing the world around him. He realized that there were more important things to learn from rather than books. This shows that one's passion is more influenced by the world they live in, not by standard textbook information. Newton's exemplifies how real effort and determination for what you do in life helps define your passion.

Isaac Newton's consistency and passionate spirit shows how one can rise above tough obstacles and achieve their goals. Due to all the hardships that Newton has gone through in his life, he still remained determined to do what he thinks is right. On top of his difficulties, he also still remains passionate for the thing he loves. Newton shows how anyone can do this and all you need is a little willpower. Isaac Newton inspires me to reach for higher goals that I once thought impossible. He shows how they are easily overcome and comes with a great reward. Isaac Newton would be a great role model for children and adults alike because of his passionate, consistent attitude. Isaac Newton was a great man and we have learned so much from him. He will be remembered for his work, life and strong character. If he were alive today, we would want to honor him for all the knowledge he has given to this humble species and to this world.
