Joseph Capozza was born August 13, 1927, in Springfield Massachusetts, a son of Joseph S. and Mary (D’Amore) Capozza. He loved to keep busy, listening to music, and spending time with his family.
A lifelong resident of Springfield MA, he was in the Assunta Society, and a graduate of Springfield Tech High School. He worked for 39 years at Package Machinery of East Longmeadow, and served in the Springfield Auxiliary Police Force. And also served the United States in World War Two as a medical corpsman in the second medical corp.
He is my Grandfather. I chose to do my story on him because all my life I found that he was very interesting. He used to tell me stories about the military and since it was World War Two, I decided to let the world know.
Joseph Capozza served in Bastogne, Belgium (part of the Battle of the Bulge), in the second medical corp. He saved many lives and stood by through many fights. Later in his army career, he was promoted to surgical technician. He did operations in the battlefield, under fire. In one instance he lost his surgical scissors and had to use a combat knife instead. He was a hero. Joseph died on Veterans Day 2009
