Jing Chang

by Yen Ti from Taipei

Everyone has his or her own hero, and so do I. My hero is a Taiwanese female singer, Jing Chang. She has short hair just like a boy and both men and women think she is more handsome than a man. Because of her handsome looks, people are confused about her sexual orientation. Though many people consider she is not straight, Jing insists that she isn't lesbian. Actually, no matter what gender she loves, it will never change her status in my mind. Initially, her charming voice caught my attention when she attended a singing competition named 'Super Idol'. During the competition, she encountered some failures and what makes her my hero is how she faced failures. I was inspired by her quote, "Pick yourself up from where you've fallen."

In one episode, Jing sang a song and made a miserable mistake. She forgot the Lyrics! Undoubtedly, it was a serious mistake in the singing contest. Upon finishing the performance, Jing felt extremely frustrated but that can't erase this mistake. At the end of this episode, Jing was announced to have to exit this contest. Few days later, the production unit asked her whether she wanted to come back to this contest and challenge it again. At first, she didn't promise immediately. After a few days, she said she was willing to challenge it again. To everyone's surprise, Jing decided to sing the song which led to failure. Finally, Jing did a great performance and moved the audience. Then she explained why she decided to come back and chose the same song. She said, " I want to show everyone my best performance and I want to face the failure and conquer it." Moreover, she added, "Pick yourself up from where you've fallen." This quote has become my motto and encouraged myself when I encounter failures or setbacks. Thanks to my hero, Jing Chang has inspired me. There is no denying that Jing has a huge influence on the way I strive towards my goal.
