Jim Davis and Garfield

My hero is Jim Davis, the creator of Garfield. He was born July 28, 1945 in Fairmount, Indiana. He was raised on a farm. His family had 25 cats. When he was young, he had asthma. While he was sick, he spent his time drawing. At that time, he wasn't very good. When Jim was in school, he had a low grade point average. His first job before he became a cartoonist was in advertising. He proved that you don't have to be the smartest kid in class to be successful.

On June 19, 1978, he created Garfield. It was in 41 newspapers around the country. During this time period, it was just an average cartoon, but soon it became more than that. People were excited about Garfield. It created a lot of fans around the world. That's not all.

Soon, he did TV movies in 1981. In the late 80's, he had his own TV show that ran for quite some time. Also, he made another comic that wasn't as popular called US Acres. In 2004, Garfield came out with a movie called Garfield The Movie. It wasn't very good. A sequel came out in 2006 and it was worse than the original. Garfield comics are still going on today and will go on for years to come.

Jim Davis is my hero because he inspired me to cartoon. Without him and the Garfield comics, I wouldn't be drawing. This is why he is my hero. I want to pursue cartooning in my future and plan to attend art school.

I am not the only one who thinks that Jim Davis is cool. There are many people around the world who collect Garfield products. Some people collect stuffed animals, calendars and other items. Jim Davis is my hero because he has been very inspirational to me and others.

Jim Davis now resides in Muncie, Indiana and his company is called Paws Inc.
