Jimmy Doolittle is a lot of things. He is strong, he is wise, but most of all he is courageous. He has inspired all Americans to be independent. He has served his country for all of his life. All he did was give to this country until the day he died. Even when all hope was lost he would never give up. This is what makes him such a good hero.
Jimmy Doolittle was born on December 14, 1896 in Alameda, California. He spent most of his life in Nome, Alaska. He went to school in Los Angeles. He studied most of his school years at the ''School of Mines''. Then in 1917 he started to start flight school at Rockwell Field, California. In 1918 he finally reached the Rank of First Lt.
When World War l started he continued to be a flight instructor at Camp John Dick. He spent all of the First World War training pilots. When World War ll started he was recruited into the air force. He was assigned to the aircraft carrier called the ''Hornet''. After spending a while on the ship he was assigned to lead a bombing over a Japanese Island called Okinawa. This bombing was known as the Doolittle Raid. This was one of his most courageous acts because he bravely led over one hundred men into battle. When his country needed him most he took charge and led the way.
During the post war Jimmy was given the rank of Lt General. Later on he became the first president of the ''Air force Association''. Later he finally retired from the Air force in 1959. After the War ended he started to settle down. He was still involved in serving his country but he was not active on the field. Throughout his life he was awarded so many medals for his service in the Air Force. In 1993 he finally died of old age. He lived to be 96 years old.
Jimmy Doolittle has been awarded the Medal of Honor and so many other medals. He served his country until he died. He has not only inspired me but he has also inspired a lot of other Americans. I hope to also serve my country in the future just like Jimmy Doolittle did.
