John Hancock was a hero because he was a good leader before and after the Revolutionary War. He used his wealth to an advantage by donating money to the colonies in the war. He was also very confident in believing in being independent from Britain. He helped other people believe in what was right.

John Hancock was born on January 12, 1737 and died on October 8, 1793, when he was 56 years old. He was an orphan who was raised by his uncle and aunt. His hometown was Braintree, Massachusetts, which is now Quincy. He was an important figure leading up to the Revolutionary War because he helped the colonists protest the British and then became a member of the Second Continental Congress. He later became the president  of the Continental Congress, where he was the first to sign the Declaration of  Independence in 1776. His signature was huge!!! He wanted to keep helping his community so he ran for and was elected to be the first and third governor of Massachusetts. He served in this role until he died in 1793.

John Hancock was a hero by being brave because it was very risky to sign the Declaration of Independence because if you went against British Parliament, you could be arrested for committing treason. He is also generous because he gave money to the continental forces to help with their lack of supplies. Lastly he is persistent because he never stops trying for what he wants. For example he was a leader before, after, and during the American Revolution.

As you can see John Hancock started his life with a tough beginning as an orphan. He fought through these times and helped our country fight through its tough beginnings to finally be what it is today. For this reason John Hancock is one of the people who helped our country become what it is today. This is why John Hancock is a hero.
