In the exciting movie Forrest Gump, Forrest was a heroic soldier in Vietnam. His platoon was ambushed, and he was wounded in the surprise attack. Although he was scathed, he went back into the line of fire to rescue his fellow men and their weapons. This scene is very similar to the story of the brave and courageous Colonel Jack H. Jacobs. Just like Forrest Gump, Colonel Jack H. Jacobs was a helpful, independent, and efficient American soldier. His unbelievable story of true loyalty and determination has inspired many ordinary Americans to join the military or go against the odds.
Jack H. Jacobs was similar to many other American men at his time. The main reason he enlisted into the army was because he had no money. Once he enlisted, Jacobs was directly sent to Vietnam, where he was an advisor to a Vietnamese infantry battalion. His battalion was ambushed by enemy soldiers with mortars, rifles, and machine guns. Jacobs was wounded in the face by a mortar, but that did not stop him from giving up on his fellow troops.
Colonel Jack H. Jacobs is an extraordinary war hero. In Vietnam, he successfully rescued 13 American troops that were either wounded or killed. His astonishing bravery and courage led him to receive three Bronze Stars, two Silver Stars, and the Medal of Honor. He also is the military analyst for MSNBC, a best-selling author, and serves as Vice Chairman of the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation (veteransadvantage.com). These great achievements directly state that he was an efficient American hero. Although his success is beyond belief, some people might argue that he is not an idol.
One may argue that Jack Jacobs is no hero because he killed three soldiers in his rescue mission. However, Jacobs did it for the greater good, and by killing three people, he helped save 13. If those Vietnamese officers didn't die that day, they might have lived another day to kill other Americans. After all, didn't those enemy gunners try to kill Jacobs and his fellow troops in the first place? The act of killing those Vietnamese soldiers was sole action of self-defense. Jack H. Jacobs is an American hero, and nothing less than that.
Through all of Jack H. Jacobs's accomplishments and deeds, he is widely known around the world. Although he carried out negative actions in combat, that does not define him as a bad person. It is utterly amazing what Jacobs did, and has high respect from almost everyone that has heard his account in Vietnam. Without his valor, there would have been many more deaths that day on the battlefield. Jack H. Jacobs's true story of heroics and courage has distinguished him as America's best war heroes.
