John Arthur Johnson In the midst of my research looking for an amazing person who pushed through prejudice and hate I found John Arthur Johnson. I became aware of John when I was trying to find a hero in sports. He grabbed my attention because he was the able to become the best in the world even though there was a lot of prejudice around. He seems like a very stand-up guy and he seems very respectful to everyone. I, Sean Labigan, am a high school student who aspires to be a role model in the field of technology like he was in the field of boxing. I would like to pursue a career in technology but keep the same ethics that he had and push through any prejudice I face.

According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook website, "Athletes and sports competitors participate in organized, officiated sporting events to entertain spectators" They must practice every day to become better and more experienced every day. Athletes have to take care of their sports equipment otherwise they will not be able to work at the best level they can. They must follow all the rules that the sport has even if they disagree with a certain call made by a referee. Most professional athletes must stay on a healthy regimen and workout almost every day so they are in peak physical condition. To become a professional athlete you don't have to have much schooling just have at least a high school diploma or some equivalent education. An example of this is a child playing baseball since they could walk till they were in high school that would be considered experience. The average salary for a professional athlete is $44,680. The future outlook or growth in the area is only 6%. Some of the similar careers in this area include scouts and coaches, fitness instructors, and umpires and referees. Most athletes work not very normal schedules like during holidays or on the weekend or in the afternoon really late. They will usually work more than 40 hours per week.

During his youth John Arthur Johnson, went to many different places and had to start working as a laborer to support his family after a few years of school. Most of his childhood was not at school or playing but rather was working for different people. "A good deal of his childhood, in fact, was spent working on boats and sculleries in Galveston" Johnson was 16 when he got his first fight the prize was about $1.50 but he still won and this sent him on the path to become a boxer. Sadly he did not have any and involvements during school because he didn't go. He instead learned through hard work how to live in this world and gained an opportunity for fighting through his natural talent. Another success he had outside of school was being able to fight professional boxer Bob Thompson and then he got $25 from that. Something that he did that was a great accomplishment for him was when he beat James J. Jefferies on July 4, 1910. Jefferies respected him after that knowing that he was bested by him and he was humbled by Johnson. John Arthur Johnson is no longer alive nowadays because that would make him 129 years old. Recently in 1990 though he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

John Arthur Johnson was an inspiration to society.. He dedicated most of his life to beating people that showed great prejudice making him become respected by them. Johnson broke color barriers in boxing and became an inspiration for many people. He grew up in a family with not very much and became something that inspired hope into many different people When he was child he was inspired and told to pursue the career of boxing which made him a sign of breaking past prejudice.

Unlike John Arthur Johnson I will graduate high school and go on to college. I will strive to get the best grades I can in high school so I can go to the college I want to. Another goal I have is to accomplish many volunteer hours to show how much hard work I can put into things. I would also like to get letter man jacket before I graduate high school from either track and field or cross country. For college my goals will include striving to do my best and getting exemplary grades. In the future after college I wish to do a job in technology. Most likely something involving video games. I would love to work for a major game developing company such as Bungie or Activision maybe even 343 Industries. Those are most of my goals through high school, college and my lifetime. I hope I will never be brought down or made sad y what other people think.
