The idea of world peace with us today would never have evolved without John Lennon. John and Yoko Ono, his wife, spread the thought of world peace throughout the world through music and campaigns. Even though his final goal of achieving world peace was not reached, his teachings spread like an epidemic and evolved the idea of peace that we have today.

John Lennon was born on October 9, 1940. John lived with his parents in Liverpool, England, until his father Fred Lennon walked out on him. His mother felt that she could not take care of him as much as he wanted, so she gave him to her sister, Mimi. When John was still young, he developed severe shortsightedness, and he was forced to wear glasses. While John was young, he hated wearing glasses. John didn't know that his glasses would be one of his largest icons. John went to the Liverpool College of the Arts, and was extremely interested in Rock & Roll music. His two childhood favorites were Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly. Lennon created a small skiffle group with his friends called the Quarrymen. On July 6, 1957, the Quarrymen were playing at a church picnic and John met Paul McCartney, who later on joined the rock group. In 1960, the band was finalized and had their debut performance at the Cavern Club in Liverpool, and then quickly grew. In 1962, the Beatles were created. The band was by far the most influential to pop culture. Some thought that they were more famous than Jesus. This band skyrocket Lennon's popularity. In 1970, Paul McCartney publicly announced that the band was breaking up. Even though this was the end of the hit group the Beatles, it was not the end of Lennon's stardom.

When Lennon left the Beatles, he started his solo career with his new wife, Yoko Ono. John's most successful album was called Imagine. Imagine spoke of spreading peace throughout the world. "Imagine all the people living life in peace. You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope someday you'll join us, and the world will be as one," John Lennon sings in Imagine. Almost all of his songs were dedicated to world peace. John and his wife Yoko made it their goal to spread peace throughout the world. John used his solo career to campaign his ideas to the world. He used the power of music to spread his influence across the planet.

John Lennon is important to me because he fought for what he felt was right, even in the hardest of times. John campaigned around the US in times of turmoil, when they were near war. The government was against him, yet he did not give up. Lennon fought against the odds to spread his message. He battle against the pro-war media and stayed strong. This is why he is inspirational to me. John stopped at nothing to spread his knowledge until the day he died. He fought through the threats and never backed down. His image of peace is still remembered to this day because of his determination. His efforts have truly made him a hero.
John Lennon fought for his ideas. He used his popularity gained from one of the most popular bands to spread his influence around the world. To this day, John Lennon is still a hero.
