Most musicians are admired for their talent and their ability to entertain their fans with beautiful music. However, John Lennon differed from typical musicians. Now don’t misunderstand; he was a brilliant artist, but something he possessed set him apart from everyone else. John Lennon used his strong musical talent to become a huge controversial figure. He was able to fight for what he believed in through his songs and actions, causing him to become a powerful musical voice and to also possess an opinionated political voice as well.
Robert Gary Lee once said, “Wisdom is nothing more than healed pain.” John’s father had deserted him as an infant, leaving his single mother struggling to raise him until she later tragically perished at a young age. John had lost both of his parents before even reaching the age of eighteen, causing an unimaginably painful childhood. However, from that, Lennon had formed into an independent and powerful man. Lennon is globally admired for his strong opinions and ability to directly express himself. These characteristics identify him as an equipped leader, causing many people to believe he was what brought The Beatles so much fame and success. Lennon shows immense amounts of determination as he moves past the hard obstacles in his life and therefore gaining wisdom and intelligence
To John Lennon, not fighting for what he believed in wasn’t an option. He held the strength to not only argue for his beliefs despite many obstacles, but moreover, the power to stir people. He once wrote a song emphasizing his opinion of a man (John Sinclair) being jailed unjustly in 1971. This powerful song raised such controversy that the prisoner was released the next day. His unique talent helped him incredibly as he got heavily involved in the anti-war activism as a songwriter and as a person, publicly protesting against violence and war. Though it was inevitable that he would be affronted with problems with the government, he still was able to support his opinion and to not cower away. Even when he had the government following him and tracking him around everywhere he went, he wasn’t discouraged and he continued to fight. I believe that this not only takes an opinionated man with a belief, but one who also has unbreakable courage and determination.
If Lennon did anything in his life, he inspired. He portrayed admirable features that many aspire to have. Lennon was able to grow wisdom and strength from hardships he was forced to endure. He produced some of the best work in the late seventies, in protest against violence and war, and he became a spokesperson for the peace movement. He knew what he felt was right, and he fought for it tirelessly and with unending courage. John Lennon simply had many of the traits society desires. He was a hero because inspires. He is what we all aim to be.
