Johnny Football

by Taylor from Bonham

Johnny Manziel is a quarterback at Texas A&M University. He is sophomore and is majoring in Business. He was born December 6, 1992 so he is 20 years old. He went to Tivy High School and was coached by March Smith. He played football all four years in high school and began in with freshman team as a freshman. His junior year he was starting quarterback and completed his season with 2,903 passing yards, 1,544 rushing yards, 152 receiving yards and 55 touchdowns. He was voted District 28-4A MVP his senior year.

He was highly recruited out of high school; in addition to Texas A&M, he received offers from Baylor, Colorado State, Iowa State, Louisiana Tech, Oregon, Rice, Stanford, Tulsa, and Wyoming. Although he grew up a Texas Longhorns fan, the University of Texas only wanted him at defensive back. Though Manziel originally committed to play for Oregon, he later changed his commitment to the Aggies, thanks to the influence of then-quarterbacks coach Tom Rossley.

He played a remarkable freshman season at A&M and was talked about all over the country. He got the nickname Johnny Football. He won the Heisman Trophy and the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award in 2012 he was the first freshman to win either one. He won many other awards as well. He has had a few bad press moments and was also suspended for half a game in the 2013 season. He can do things other football player can't even dream of.

I personally can't wait to see what he can do. He is my hero because he is such a young player and to get the recognition and the play time that other player wish they could get. Johnny Football will be a great player if he keeps doing what he is doing and playing for the A&M Aggies. Gig'em!!
