Jeremiah Parham

by Ashley from Pickerington

To me a hero is someone who helps others before they help themselves. They don't have to be someone grown, or famous. They could be a regular kid you sit by in class everyday.

I do not think it is important to have a hero, because many people have done well in life without them. It doesn't take a hero to be a hero. Many people spend their lives searching for someone to pull them out of their mess, and they don't realize how much time they waste. You don't find heroes, heroes find you.

My personal hero is my best friend Jeremiah. He fits my definition of a hero because he didn't try to be a hero towards anybody, he just has the willingness to go to the edge for someone. He has always been there for me and made sure i made the right decisions. He helped me realize that there is such a thing as being "too nice" and that not everyone deserves a second chance. He pulled me out of my insecurities and made me realize that i am a beautiful person inside and out, no matter what. My brother left me when i was five to live with his mom, and Jeremiah makes sure he treats me like a sister to fill the empty spot. Even though we are in the same grade, Jeremiah is a huge impact on my life.

I feel my hero should be inducted into the hero hall of fame because there aren't that many teenage heroes. Most teenagers spend too much time thinking of themselves, not even worrying about the effect they have on others. Jeremiah treats people as equals.

Interview:

1) Define hero in your own words:
Someone who not only saves someone but inspires them to do good.

2) Who is your personal hero and why?
To be honest i don't have one because i don't want to be like anyone else.

3) How does it feel to know you're my hero?
It makes me feel great that you look to me as a brother and a hero.

4) How do you try to be a hero to your actual sisters?
I try to show them right from wrong.

5) Do you believe in the saying "everyone deserves a second chance"?
No, because if you mess up the first time, it's in your nature to do it again.

6) Do you think heroes have to be grownups?
No, anyone can make a difference and be a hero.
