Jane Tomlinson

by Aliana from Houston

Cancer is a word not a sentence ~John Diamond

Jane Tomlinson was born is Wakefield in Yorkshire in 1964. Her father was a dentist and had 10 children. She moved to Australia at age 11 and moved back to Wakefield at age 14. In 1990 she wanted to study math at the University of Leeds. That's when she found out that she had breast cancer. Instead she decided to go at Leeds General Infirmary and learn to be a radiographer.

Soon she had married Mike Tomlinson. They had 2 girls and one boy. In 1993 she became a pediatric radiographer.

3 years after the cancer she a second mastectomy, and two rounds of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. In 2000 Jane found that the cancer had spread to her lungs and bones. She was told that she had 12 months to live.

July and August of 2000, Jane spent 9 full weeks riding her he bike across the United States. In January 2007, Mike and Jane Tomlinson had a Jane Tomlinson run for all. It was a 10km charity run. Sadly she had developed chronic heart disease. In June 2007 Jane died at St. Gemma's Hospice.

Jane was a hero because she did great things when she had cancer. She rode 3,800 miles on her bike with lung cancer. She can do it with lung cancer!!! That just blows my mind away!!! She inspires people with cancer to get out there and fight that cancer. People that have cancer and that are in the hospital just feeling horrible should go out there and do what they have always wanted to do. Fight for the cure!!!!

The fact that she was so athletic when she had breast cancer, lung cancer, bone cancer, and heart disease, has a big impact on me.
