My hero’s name is José Cecilio del Valle. He was a person who wanted to make his country, Honduras, better than others. He wanted the people to be educated, to make something of their lives. He was called “El Sabio Valle” (The Sage Valle) (angelfire.com). They called him that because he was really smart and he was an educated person. This is one part of how my hero was. Let's learn a little more of his heroic life.
"José Cecilio del Valle was born on November 21, 1780, in the village of Choluteca, located near the Choluteca River. This village belonged to the former province of Tegucigalpa (now Honduras) during the Spanish domination. When he was 9 years old he moved to Guatemala. He was the legitimate son of José Antonio del Valle and Mrs. Gertrudis Diaz del Valle; both were members of the most distinguished Spanish families in the Kingdom of Guatemala. They obtained the main political and military jobs. Their wealth consisted mainly of valuable estates of livestock. In Guatemala City, José attended the University of San Carlos, where he earned a bachelors degree in 1794. Then in 1799 he earned a degree in civil and canonical law and a licentiate degree in law in 1803"(angelfire.com).
After del Valle was prepared, he started doing good things for his country. He was elected Mayor of Guatemala City Internal Auditor in 1820, War of the Captaincy General of Guatemala in 1821, and also Vice President of the Republic of Central America in 1831 to 1833(angelfire.com). His mentor was father, José Antonio Liendo, and Goycochea (en.wikipidia.org).
After all that happened del Valle started getting more famous and more respectable of his major accomplishments. He drafted the Declaration of Independence of Central America, founded the newspaper “Homeland Friend”, was the forerunner of Latin Americanism, occupied public office and numerous court advisors of the 1st instance of the artillery and internal fiscal consulate real audience, Censor of the gazette, director of the 1830 economic society professor at the University of San Carlos de Borromeo. These are some of the things he did when he was alive, but he did more than that. By doing all that and more he got an award from the Honduran’s Government, he got a medal for distinguished service named in his honor. There is a University named after him in Tegucigalpa (en.wikipedia.org).
I think del Valle a hero because he did everything to defend his country and to make his country independent. He changed the world by helping his country and his people from other countries and from the enemies who wanted to destroy his country. This person is a hero for me, because he is an example of someone who cares about others and his country. This person helped us to be like him, to help our country, and to be respected from others. He also showed us that education is the key to our future in life and the key to improve our country.
