My hero is Jesse Owens. I chose him as my hero because I admire track and field athletes. They run so much and they are so dedicated to running that they will get up at 5:00 in the morning to train.

James “ Jesse” Owens is a track and field athlete who was born on September 12, 1913. He was born in Lawrence County, Alabama. His parents were Henry and Emma Owens. He competed in the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, Germany. He won a total of 4 gold medals that year in the following events:

• 100m

• 200m

• long jump

• 4x100 meter relay

He got the nickname “Jesse” by a teacher in Cleveland who didn’t understand his country accent when he said his name was "J.C." Because he worked in a repair shop after school, the track and field coach, Charles Riely, let him train in the morning before school. This tells you that Jesse Owens was very dedicated.

Jesse Owens was a really fast runner. I really admire that he was so dedicated that he took time he had for himself just to practice. He is my hero because he was dedicated, focused and brave.
