“But friendship is precious, not only in the shade, but in the sunshine of life, and thanks to a benevolent arrangement the greater part of life is sunshine.”

On Jefferson’s tombstone there are three things and three things only. They are: author of the Declaration of Independence, the author of the Statute of Virginia for religious freedom, and father of the University of Virginia. The fact that this was all he wanted to be remembered for shows that he is modest, and that is a good trait in a hero.

He was elected into the Second Continental Congress, which proves that the people liked him and that he was a strong leader. There, he was appointed head of a committee to draft the Declaration of Independence. The fact that they trusted him to write the Declaration showed that he had good time management and was very trustworthy.

He returned to Virginia and wrote a bill on religious freedom. This shows that he respected differences. He was then elected to be the governor of Virginia, which also shows that he was well-liked.

He then went back to congress and proposed an anti-slavery bill. This also shows that he was respectful of others' differences.

He has influenced me because he looked on the bright side of life and was very smart. He applied this intelligence to help other people. He tried to make this world a better place.
