Jesus Christ

What is a hero? There are many answers to that question. Some heroes are fictional and save the world like Superman, Flash Gordon, or Spiderman. Some people call famous movie stars or athletes their hero. Other heroes are not well known or famous at all, like a father or an uncle. Martin Luther King Jr. and Gandhi have been called heroes because they made such a big difference in their lives. Choosing one hero is a tough thing to do. There is one person who has done more than any fictional superhero or anyone else has ever done. My hero is someone who was so influential during His life that we still worship Him today. The man I am talking about is Jesus Christ.

Jesus had an abnormal birth like many modern day fictional heroes. He was conceived by Mary through the Holy Spirit. Mary and Joseph were on their way to Bethlehem for a census when Mary gave birth to Jesus. His first night on Earth was spent sleeping in a cold, dirty manger next to farm animals. Even though He was born in a sad and dirty place like a barn, many people came to see His birth. Not much of Jesus’ early life is known, but later in His life He did many great things.

Like many superheroes in comic books, Jesus had powers that no one else had. When Jesus used His powers they were called miracles. His first miracle was turning water into wine at a wedding. That was just the start of the wonderful miracles to come, such as curing lepers, giving sight to the blind, helping handicapped people walk again, and even bringing people back to life. Jesus had many followers, and like many heroes He was betrayed by one of them.

As often seen in heroes, Jesus died and rose to be with his father forever. Jesus suffered a very painful and agonizing death. One of Jesus’ followers, Judas, sold Him to the Roman army for 30 pieces of silver. Jesus was scourged 39 times and a crown of thorns was placed on His head. He was forced to carry a cross up to Calvary where He was crucified. Jesus suffered tremendously because, but He never once fought back. After 3 hours upon the cross, Jesus died at the young age of 33. Jesus had to die to save everyone on Earth, and that is what a hero would do. He was placed in a tomb, but He would not stay there. Three days after His death, He rose from the dead to fulfill God’s covenant and to save everyone.

Jesus has and always will be my hero. There is no one else in history that has done what He did. Like many comic book heroes do fictionally, He fought for what was right, helped people in need, and saved the world. If it were not for Jesus I would not have a perfect person in my life that I could look up to. Jesus is also the center of my faith and is my God. Jesus was so passionate about everyone and everything and that is what makes Him the perfect hero.
