Jesus, the Christ, Son of God

Jesus Christ reflects the ultimate picture of a hero. For me a true hero looks out for people's needs, serves them, and gives his life for the people he loves. That is why I have chosen Jesus Christ as my hero for he fits this description. As shown in the Bible Jesus served others with a humble spirit and ultimately gave his life for us so that we could be saved. Matthew 20:28 says “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” Jesus in His gracious mercy met our greatest need in His death- our reconciliation to God.

Jesus Christ shows service to others by healing. Mark 1:31a “So he came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her.” Here is another verse that shows Him serving people by healing them, meeting their physical needs. In Matthew 12:15 scripture says, “But when Jesus knew it, He withdrew from there. And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them all.” Jesus has met my needs by healing and keeping me safe, like when I was involved in a rollover car accident. Despite the car being totaled, I only needed a few stitches for a small cut on my head. Jesus has met all my needs through his death, healing me physically and spiritually.

Finally, Christ died for us that we may be saved through faith in Him. Romans 5:6-8 says, “For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love towards us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:18-19 tells us what this really did for us as sinners, “Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.” By dying on the cross, Jesus paid the penalty for my sins so that I may be righteous before God, and that is how he fulfills my definition of a hero.
