Michael Jordan

by Osny from Houston

" I will do it whatever It takes"

This is a person that will always be a legend and will always will be a person that make people see basketball in different way, in the good way. I'm definetly talking about Michael Jordan. Jordan was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Wilmington, North Carolina. Michael brought this sport to another level; he is a great leader and excellent athlete on the court and a good person off the basketball court as well.

Michael Jordan was the most influential person to come out of UNC. He got a scholarship for the University Of North Carolina and there he started his real career and became more interested in basketball. Michael Jordan was just a freshman and he averaged 29 points per game and he scored the winning point in the NCCA Champioship against Georgetown. Since then, Jordan became very recognized by the media and by the university.

Michael Jordan started his professional career in the NBA with the Chicago Bulls. "He was also named rookie of the year and made the first of his nine All-Star game appearances," and he led the Chicago Bulls to an extraordianry winning street that led them to championship for a couple of years and also made the Bulls ones of the best teams in the history of the NBA. Michael Jordan always wanted the ball; he had confident in himself to do it, to make the last shot of the game so that they could win the game. People knew that he could do it and that he would be the best player of the game. For many years Michael Jordan was the main event of the NBA and the Chicago Bulls became better with the help of Michael Jordan.

Later, Jordan decide to retire from playing basketball, but just for a while because a player like Jordan can't stay away form the sport he loves. A few years later Michael Jordan wanted to come back and he did with the Washington Wizards. He signed a contract with them for two seasons, making Michael Jordan the best paid player in the NBA.

Michael Jordan gave it his all off the court as much as he did on. He helped many different people, in many different ways. In 1994 he created the James R. Jordan Boys and Girls Club and Family Life Center, named after his father. The Center, which is located in Chicago, Illinois, opened to the public in 1996 thanks to a $5 million donation from the Chicago Bulls and a $2 million contribution from Michael Jordan. Every week, 1,000 people come through the center's doors, from infants and toddlers to teenagers and senior citizens. There are a number of things to do there. Some go there to play pool, do their homework, play basketball, or just relax in a safe place.

I decided to choose Michael Jordan to be my hero because he is a great athlete, he is a good person, and he also cares about other people on the court and also off of it. Michael Jordan is a legend already and nobody can take that away from him. I admire Jordan for having the confidence he had in games and how he became the deciding factor for whether the team won or lost the game. I hope that one day I will become a person like Michael Jordan with confidence, determination and ambitions in basketball; and I also hope I can become a legend in the NBA and have people admire me like I admire Michael Jordan.
